Payment Deadlines for Electricity are Changing
By decision of the Georgian National Energy and Water Supply Regulatory Commission (GNERC), a unified meter reading system will be implemented in Tbilisi starting January 2022. The company TELASI will read the meters of all subscribers in Tbilisi during the last four days of each month. Consequently, residents will receive their electricity bills during the first days of every following month. Payments for electricity will be possible within 15 calendar days from the date the bill is prepared.
Along with the launch of the new scheme, a grace period for payments is being established for pensioners, individuals registered in the Unified Database of Socially Vulnerable Families, and large families. Pensioners will be able to pay their electricity fees until the 16th of each month, while socially vulnerable and large families can make payments until the 22nd of each month. As a result of this change, the payment deadlines for these specific groups will be aligned with the schedules for receiving pensions and social assistance.
It is important to note that the first unified meter reading will take place at the end of December this year. Therefore, December is a transition period, during which some TELMICO subscribers will receive two electricity bills. Customers will receive the first bill at the usual time, reflecting the previous month's electricity charges (November and part of December). The second bill will be received at the end of December or early January, reflecting the charges for the remaining days of December.
The only exception applies to subscribers who normally receive their bills at the end of the month; they will receive only one bill in early January, which will reflect the charges for the entire month of December.
Tea Nozadze, Head of the Customer Service Department, stated: "By decision of the Georgian National Energy and Water Supply Regulatory Commission (GNERC) regarding the transition to a unified meter reading system, starting from 2022, all TELMICO subscribers in Tbilisi will receive their bills during the first days of the month. The public will be able to make payments within 15 calendar days from the preparation of the bill. The final payment date will be indicated on the bill as it has been previously, while pensioners, socially vulnerable individuals, and large families will benefit from the grace period."
